Vernon Lewis is the City Treasurer for the City of Houston, where he helps oversee the City’s $14 billion debt portfolio, $6 billion investment portfolio, and its depository banking system. A Houston native, he brings deep expertise in public finance, debt management, and investment strategy to ensure long-term fiscal strength and accountability.
During his tenure, Mr. Lewis has emerged as a national leader in public finance, serving as the youngest member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States & Canada and Houston Christian University’s Dunham College of Business. He is also the designer and lead implementer of the City of Houston’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Investment Initiative.
Mr. Lewis holds a graduate certificate in Financial Management from Cornell University and an MBA from Houston Christian University, along with multiple advanced professional certifications in public fund investment and financial management. In recognition of his leadership and impact, he was named a Rising Star by The Bond Buyer magazine.
